What Do Community Developers Do? Salus Community Developers provide on-site support to Salus tenants so that they can be successful in maintaining their housing and in rebuilding their lives. Community Developers staff resource centres located in either Salus owned buildings or age mixed buildings owned by the Ottawa Community Housing Corporation.
Why? Salus is a supportive housing agency that provides on site support to tenants with mental health difficulties so that they can manage living independently more readily. By having a staff person on site five days a week during working hours, tenants will experience less crises, feel less isolated or lonely, and will discover and develop their own strengths and skills.
How? Salus Community Developers provide a wheel of support: Crisis Intervention, Ongoing Support and Community Development. These parts are not always equal, and vary according to the needs of the client group.

Crisis Intervention: Includes suicide intervention, de escalating tenant relation issues, assisting with tenant health & housing crises.
Ongoing Support: Includes talking to tenants, providing a safe place, assisting tenants with daily tasks & activities, and connecting tenants with supports (community or internal).
Community Development: Organizing tenant activities within the building, developing self help or skill development groups, linking with community activities, promoting tenant run meetings, encouraging tenants to build on strengths, exploring recreational activities and promoting healthy lifestyles.
