The Irene Despard Healthy Lifestyles Fund
Background The Irene Despard Healthy Lifestyles Fund is a new fund which results from the amalgamation of the Irene Despard Educational Fund and the Eli Lilly Fund. The Irene Despard Fund was established in 1989 in memory of Irene Despard. Irene was one of the founding members of Salus and later became the first staff person to be hired in 1978 prior to the opening of our first halfway house. Irene was a teacher for several years and Salus’ Board of Directors felt it appropriate to set up an education fund in her memory. The Eli Lilly Fund had been made possible through a grant from the Eli Lilly pharmaceutical company and supported client recreational activities. The new “Irene Despard Healthy Lifestyles Fund” continues to celebrate the life of Irene Despard while also recognizing the Salus Healthy Lifestyles Program.
Salus Clients and Residents can apply to the Irene Despard Healthy Lifestyles Fund to assist with the cost related to an academic/ general interest course and/or a recreational activity. This can apply to tuition/registration, course materials, books for self-study, art supplies or any other material to support a hobby.
Application Process Applications can be sent in anytime but grants will be given out four (4) times per year, following the academic calendar year (August for September courses, December for January courses, March for April courses and May for summer courses). Applications received after the deadline will be processed at the next quarter.
